Our History

BEPZA Public School And College, karnaphuli EPZ, Chottogram started on 20th April in 2015 . Actually the institution is not a newly established one. It origins from a traditional institution named Chittagong Steel Mills High School, so the history itself turns back to the history of establishment of Chittagong Steel Mills High School. The history of Bangladesh Liberation War and establishment of Chittagong Steel Mills High School are inter waved. The liberation war started in 1971 as well as the process of the establishment of Chittagong Steel Mill High School started in the same year. It was 1960s and the greatest steel mill of subcontinent was founded at patenga in chittagong named Chittagong Steel Mills Ltd. At that time it was the only steel mill of the country . About 5000 officials, staffs and labourers were on the jobs in steel mills. With a view to educating the children of the officials, staffs and labourers living at steel mills colony, the labour leaders thought to establish a high school at steel mill residential area. According to that “ chittagong steel mills high school was established in 1972 by chittagong steel mills authority whose first headmaster was Mohd. AKM Younus . The institution was for the children of steel mills employees. It was also open for out siders on accommodation available. From the beginning the school kept a name and fame in curricula and extra-curricular activities in the country. The school was renowned for its quality education. Many of its students are well established in the society and working as high ups of civil and military administration. Unfortunately, when the mill was laid off in 1999 according to the decision of government, the school was in trusted under deputy commissioner of Chattogram. From 2000, the school had been run by the managing committee approved by chattogram education board. It is mentioned that in 2005, an agreement was completed between BEPZA and Bangladesh Steel Eingineering Corporatin. According to the agreement 1.82 acres of land was allotted for the school by BEPZA. The school was being run successfully by the managing committee. But on 20th April in 2015 the school was handed over to BEPZA according to the decision of a meeting of the governing board of BEPZA. later on, The name of the institution was changed and it was newly named BEPZA Public School And College, Karnaphuli EPZ, chattogram, Whose first headmaster was Md Abul Kalam, afterwards a new academic 4 storied building was established expanding some more acres of land and the old building was removed from the campus. The present school is an L-shaped building. About 2000 students are now studying in this school from class play to ten. Its present headmaster is Md. Nazim uddin. About 55 teachers, staffs and employees are now serving in this institution. This institution is run according to the rules and regulations of the board of secondary and higher secondary education under the ministry of education. This institution is now run by its own governing body whose head is the respected chairman of BEPZA.
